The Area
Jerez de la Frontera
Jerez de la Frontera has situated in Andalusia, the Cadiz province of Spain. It is a unique city in Spain and Andalusia with protohistoric settlements around the third millennium B.C., where Tartessians, Neolithic, Romans, Arabs and Catholics have had their glory and added their essence.
The most recognized horses in the world are the Andalusian horses. A horse-riding hack on the “Pura Raza Española” is a must if you like riding. It has taken place since 720 B.C., and in 1912 the best of the breed was given the distinction “Pura Raza Española” (pure Spanish breed).
One of the local economic pillars for centuries and a big part of history and culture is famous Sherry wines worldwide, known as a D.O. Jerez-Xeres-Sherry wine.
Flamenco is the heart and soul of Andalusian glory and is part of local identity. UNESCO declared the flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
The spring fair, named “Feria de Abril”, is held annually in April or May. During the fair, the habitants dress in lovely flamenco dresses, drink typical Jerez wine and ride gorgeous horses. Some of Spain´s most famous flamenco artists’ like Lola Flores and José Mercé, are from Jerez. In the old town, there are several flamenco bars and stores where the guests can experience flamenco art.
Spring is the perfect moment to have Andalusia’s entire experience in the flamenco, wine and horse culture in Jerez de la Frontera.
