EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARÍA
GLORIOUS HISTORY POINT IN ANDALUSIA.
The attributes of the legends emphasize that El Puerto de Santa María was founded after the Trojan War by the Greek Athenian leader Menes Theus. Menes Theus wanted to establish a town with his name, and called it Port of Menes Theo. However, this wonderful town also has evidence of protohistoric settlements from the stone age and the Phoenician era.
Here, in the year 711, the Muslim conquest of Spain began, then called Hispania. The Muslims entered through the Guadalete river and began to conquer the peninsula. The victory of the Muslims in Spain and Portugal ended in a government called Al-Andalus. The Muslims ruled the peninsula for centuries until the Catholics with the Crown of Castile recovered in Granada in January 1492 the corresponding parts of the Spanish peninsula.
El Puerto de Santa María is where Christopher Columbus stayed while planning his trip to India seeking financing to do so and where the first world map was made after the discovery of the American continent.
Today, El Puerto de Santa María has one of the best marinas in Spain called Puerto Sherry. This marina in the bay of Cádiz offers services and boat rentals. This coastal town offers several beautiful beaches such as Valdelagrana, Playa Natural de Levante, Santa Catalina, Muralla and La Puntilla.
El Puerto de Santa María and its wine called "Fino" is together with Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the world-renowned Wine Triangle of this area. In El Puerto the Fino, in Jerez de la Frontera the Sherry and in Sanlúcar de Barrameda the Manzanilla. Three wonderful wines deserved to be tasted and enjoyed.
