Cádiz which is the oldest city in Spain and one of the oldest towns in Europe is situated just half an hour away. El Puerto de Santa María is where Christopher Colombo sought financing for the trip he was planning to India. An outstanding myth, that must be mentioned, is the presumed location of the powerful and advanced kingdom from ancient Greece, the long-time seeker Atlantis. The Greek philosopher and student of Socrates, Plato, mentioned Gades (Cadiz) in his dialogues as the location of this town that sank into the Atlantic Ocean around the year 9.600 B.C.
